From a Small Village to Building India’s Largest Editing Community

Karthikeyan’s passion for photography was sparked at a young age, inspired by his father, who loved capturing moments through his camera. Growing up in a small village in Tamil Nadu, Karthikeyan followed in his father’s footsteps, starting with a simple Nokia X200.

His journey took a pivotal turn when he moved to Canada for further studies. With limited resources, he borrowed money from a friend to buy a GoPro. What began as a casual interest soon grew into a passion, and in 2015, Karthikeyan received an award from GoPro, including a prize of $2,000, which fueled his drive to pursue content creation more seriously.

With just a single GoPro, Karthikeyan traveled to 29 countries, capturing diverse experiences along the way. Encouraged by friends, he began posting his work online, but initial response from the audience was slow. Undeterred, Karthikeyan dove into learning the art of video editing. Though he started with Premiere Pro, its frequent crashes and high cost led him to switch to DaVinci Resolve, a decision that would shape his future. At the time, resources for learning DaVinci Resolve were scarce, and Karthikeyan spent hours poring over manuals, honing his skills through persistence and passion. Years later, after holding a senior position at a billion-dollar company, Karthikeyan decided to take a break from corporate life to explore new horizons. Together with his wife, they founded Planet in Pixel, with a vision to teach video editing to a wider audience. In just 14–15 months, they not only built a strong team of 9 members but also created India’s largest DaVinci Resolve community. Today, Planet in Pixel is recognized as the largest online video editing community in the country, empowering aspiring editors to master the craft.
